ACREL swept the awards of the State Bar Advanced Real Estate Law Course and the State Bar of Texas Real Property Probate and Trust Law Section (”REPTL”) on July 13, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas.

Chair of the Law Course, Denise Cheney, presented the award for the Best Paper in the 2016 Course to Tom Whelan and the award for the Best Speaker in the 2016 Course to David Weatherbie.  She then introduced Rick Spencer, a past recipient of the Weatherbie Workhorse Award (presented to recognize tireless contributions to CLE programs, and named for David Weatherbie) who presented the Weatherbie Workhorse Award to Steve Haley.  Then Roland Love, current Chair of REPTL (which is the largest section of the Bar with 9000 members) introduced Rick Spencer again, a former Chair of REPTL, who then presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Bob Wright.  Roland was then presented with an award for his service to REPTL as he completed his term as Chair of the Section.

The ACREL Ski Club grows and makes plans

Mark Grant reports that the ACREL Ski Club now has an even dozen members but is hoping for more—as Mark says “the more the merrier”.  Mark notes that although the resort and dates for the Club’s trip next season are not yet selected, because a number of the members have EPIC passes, the resort will most likely be Vail, Beaver Creek or Park City. Mark is planning on announcing the resort and dates for the trip later this summer. He has requested suggestions from the Club members.  Contact Mark at mark.grant@gmlaw.com if you would like to be part of the Club’s inaugural trip or have suggestions for the resort and dates.
